Because a great book... can make you laugh
November 18, 2008
Studies have shown that laughter can be good for you and your children's health. Along those lines today I thought I'd share some of my families favorite giggle inducing books. Having boys ages 3 and 6 these books cross ages and hopefully will make your children laugh the way mine do when we read them. With each listing I've included a link to Amazon.com for more information as well as the age range and price.
Happy reading!
Author David Shannon
When it comes to laughter, David Shannon knows what he's doing. This author is the favorite of my three year old who is addicted to his "No David" series. We first discovered him earlier this year when my older son brought home a book order for from Scholastic. An instant hit from the cover illustration alone, we've been reading him (EVERY NIGHT) ever since. Each story follows David as he gets into some sort of "trouble". The books show children that even though David is getting into things, he always should know that his Mommy loves him. Here are three books from that series to check out:
- Oh David! $6.99; baby - preschool
- No David! $11.35 (hard cover); baby - preschool
- David Smells! a Diaper $6.99 (board book); baby - preschool
Author Dav Pilkey
Dave Pilkey books should be illegal they are so funny. This series of books follows the misadventures of two elementary school boys Harold and George. The boys express their wild imaginations through comic books they create. Each comic strip follows the adventures of Captain Underpants (Harold and George's principal - It's a long, top-secret story). The books are written in short chapters and are a quick and fun read. Here are three books from the series to get started with.
- Captain Underpants $12.74 (board book); ages 9-12
- Captain Underpants and the Wrath of the Wicked Wedgie Woman $5.99; ages 9-12
- Captain Underpants and the Perilous Plot of Professor Poopypants $5.99; ages 9-12
Have any humorous books your children like to read? We'd love to hear from you. Just leave them in the comments.
